There are five oceans in the world, from biggest to smallest they are: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern (Antarctic) Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. The waters of the oceans mix together thanks to the movement of currents which create the World (global) ocean. About 71% of the planet’s surface is covered with our oceans. What is the difference between an ocean and a sea? An ocean is larger than the sea, and is not surrounded by land in the same way as a sea is, for example, the Baltic Sea or the Black Sea. This is a picture of our local pub or public house on the tiny British Channel Island of Alderney which has a population of 1000 people. We spoke about what a pub is, and that you don’t get them in all countries in the world. They are something that are fairly common in Britain and a part of British culture.
